This treatment is best for the initial stages of the disease.

Be Careful at Taking Drugs: Think twice about taking any other drugs. Over-the-counter cold medicines might give you some temporary relief of symptoms. But believe me some medicines cause very harsh side effects to our internal organs which we don't even get to know. Though, some of them show their side effects too. Like eg - those with antihistamines, for instance, can dry up a runny nose. Prematurely resuming your normal activities can bring on a relapse or trigger serious complications.

Catnip Tea: If the fever is too high, take catnip tea and ½ tsp. of lobeliatincture every 4 hours. This treatment should not be followed by pregnant or breast-feeding women's, also, don't give it to a child below 1 year age.

Salt Water Gargle: Gargle with salt water to help relieve that dry scratchy throat that is so common with the flu.

Onion: Onion is another good remedy for getting rid of flu (influenza) fast and effectively. Make a decoction of equal amounts of onion juice and honey mixed well. You may take this decoction 3-4 times daily in doses of 1 teaspoon at a time.

Have Something Sweet: Sucking on hard candy and lozenges can also keep your throat moist so it will feel better. In addition, these products contain calories that your body can use at a time when you're probably not eating much.

Nux Vomica: Nux vomica is also a remedy which is used when a simple cold has developed into influenza.

Fruit Diet: After the fever subsides, the patient should be kept only on fruit diet for at least 2-3 days, otherwise he may develop the disease again. This may be followed by a fruit and milk diet for further two or three days.
